How To Make The Best Mulch – Tri-Cities Tree Advice

Determine How Much Mulch Is Needed
The more trees you have, the more mulch you will need to make. Furthermore, you will need at least 2 to 3 inches of mulch that will cover an area of 3 to 10 feet around the base of your tree. After some simple math, you will know exactly how much mulch for your trees you will need.

Create An Area To Make Your Mulch
The next step in making mulch for your trees is finding a spot to make it. You will want to choose an area that is not on your grass and is big enough to make all the mulch you will need. If you try to make the mulch on an area of your lawn, your lawn will end up dying due to lack of sunlight. Also, you will want to start collection your mulch material in the fall and let it sit until spring.

Collect Mulch Material
Your best mulch material will be fallen leaves and broken limbs. The leaves from your trees provide excellent material to make mulch from. Using these leaves will also save you time and money from having to find other types of material to use.

Shred & Chop
As you collect your leaves and limbs, you will want to shred and chip them. You can do this all at once or as you collect the material. If you do not have a leave shredder, you can easily use a lawnmower to get the job done. Also, if you do not have a limb chipper, you can rent one from a local hardware rental store.

Let It Sit
Once you have your pile made, it’s pretty much smooth sailing from there. All you need to do is let the pile sit.

Apply Mulch
When Spring time hits, your mulch pile will be ready to spread around the base of your trees. Don’t forget, you will need at least 2 to 3 inches and around 3 to 10 feet (depending on the size of your tree) area covered from the base.

Repeat
As time passes until Fall, keep a pile going. When the Fall does come, you will have plenty of material to use all over again.
