Tree Maintenance

Questions To Ask a Tri-Cities Arborist – Part 2 – May 2018

We’re now in the season of lawn maintenance and tree maintenance here in Kennewick. There are so many possibilities of how to plant, shape, and maintain your yard and the trees and shrubbery in them. If you have questions about trees, we are an excellent resource. We are fully accredited arborists in Kennewick and there is only a handful of us here in the area.

Here are some of the more common questions we receive:

  • What can I do to give my new tree a good start? Water and mulch are two of the best things for new trees. Just be sure to not overdo either. You can drown or suffocate your tree.
  • Why do trees change color? A combination of factors causes change. Shorter Fall days and cooler nights cause trees to stop producing chlorophyll and allows the true colors of the leaves to be seen.
  • How can I get grass to grow underneath my tree? Trees and turf have different water requirements. If you gave grass underneath a tree all the water it needs, you would kill the tree. Trees with lawn or turf do best when surrounded by mulch.

Mature Tree Care – April 2018: Part 6

We have a couple times of year where the wind in Burbank gets a little out of control. During this windy weather, we also get a fair share of rain. When and if the time comes where you need to take proactive action to prevent damage to your property, we would love to help. We look forward to helping you prevent any damage possible.

Removal
Although tree removal is a last resort, there are circumstances when it is necessary. Professionally trained arborists can help decide whether or not a tree should be removed and possess the skills and equipment to safely and efficiently remove trees. Removal is recommended when a tree:

  • is dead, dying, or considered irreparably hazardous
  • is causing an obstruction or is crowding and causing harm to other trees and the situation is
  • impossible to correct through pruning
  • is to be replaced by a more suitable specimen
  • should be removed to allow for construction

With proper maintenance, trees can add aesthetic and economic value to your property. Poorly maintained trees, on the other hand, can be a significant liability. For more information on mature tree care, contact your local ISA Certified Arborist.
