Negative Perceptions of Turf After having considered the many benefits of both trees and turf, it is important to examine the misconception that maintenance of grass areas will have a greater negative impact on the environment than would occur with tree maintenance.

Lawns are criticized because of the grass clippings that are removed and disposed in landfills.
